Led by Breitbart Sports #9 overall player Mike Muscala, the Bucknell Bisons (28-5) outlasted the Lafayette Leopards 64-56 to win the Patriot League title Wednesday night.
Muscala, who averages 19.0ppg and 11.2rpg, scored 20 points and added 11 rebounds in the victory.
This is the second NCAA Tournament berth for the Bisons in three years, and Bucknell notably defeated Kansas in the 2005 tournament while last year’s Patriot League champion, Lehigh, defeated Duke despite being a lowly 15-seed.
It appeared this year’s title would be a showdown of two of the top 10 players in the country until Lehigh’s CJ McCollum broke his foot and Lafayette slipped past them into second place and the title game.
Joey Ptasinski scored 15 points for Lafayette to lead the Leopards. Lafayette were very much in the game and were within 3 points deep into the second half.
With Muscala leading the way, the Bisons could be a real threat in the tournament. The talented big man creates match-up nightmares for opponents.
