Tournament MVP C.J. Garner, who has averaged 15.6 ppg this season, scored a career-high 31 points to lead Long Island University-Brooklyn (20-13) to the Northeastern Conference championship and the NCAA Tournament with a 91-70 win over Mount St. Mary’s (18-14).
Garner averaged 28 ppg throughout the tournament.
Leading scorer, Jamal Olasewere (19ppg) added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Blackbirds, who won their third straight conference title.
While the first half was close and the Blackbirds failed to have a single lead in the game until 10 minutes in, LIU-Brooklyn was able to establish a lead in the second half before pulling away. Fans spent the second half chanting about the Three-Peat.
