Confident Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman ignited a debate Thursday afternoon on ESPN’s First Take in a confrontational discussion with boisterous commentator Skip Bayless.
Most notably, Sherman made a direct “I’m better at life than you” statement towards Bayless. Sherman went on to call Bayless “ignorant, pompous, and egotistical.”
Sherman went on to attack Bayless’ journalistic credibility and paint him as a man lacking in accomplishment.
The hostile exchange began as a result of Bayless siding with Darrelle Revis in the ongoing “Best Corner in the NFL” debate.
Following Revis’ injury this year, Sherman has been active in promoting himself as better than the New York Jets standout.
Revis ratcheted up the discussion with a late February tweet directed at Sherman that read: “I never seen a man before run his mouth so much like girl. This dude just steady putting my name in his mouth to get notoriety.”
Sherman, a Stanford graduate, has consistently pointed to his season stats of 64 tackles, 8 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles to argue for his superiority to Revis.
The dispute will certainly fuel Revis as he continues to rehab and seeks to prove his status as the best in the game. He has been put on the trading block by the Jets, and it is unclear where he will be playing next year.
