A SWAT team will be present at MILO’s talk at California Polytechnic State University on Tuesday, in anticipation of left-wing protests, which have occasionally turned violent at other MILO events around the country.
Cal Poly officials said that they have been following the activity at previous talks by MILO, such as the shooting that occurred at a protest at the University of Washington and the riots at UC Davis, and have decided to work closely with the San Luis Obispo Police Department as a result. Captain Christopher Stanley said that the university had “made a request for our SWAT team and our department will be contributing 12 members of that team to the event.”
The SWAT team will be on standby, ready to respond to anything that requires them, whilst ordinary security will be controlled by several campus officers and other members of the SLO PD. “”Each community has reacted differently, so we are hoping Cal Poly will be a peaceful reaction,” said Captain Staley.
