Users of the popular subreddit /r/The_Donald are calling for Breitbart Tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos to speak at the GOP convention in Cleveland on July 18th.
Asking users to upvote a picture of the Breitbart senior editor, user /u/ImNot_NSA called for Milo, a moderator of The_Donald, to speak at the GOP convention, an idea that gained rapid traction amongst Reddit’s Donald Trump supporting userbase. The post hit the front page of Reddit shortly after being posted and currently stands at close to 2,000 upvotes.
This isn’t the first time that Reddit users have called for Milo to become more involved with Trump’s campaign, regularly asking for Trump to name Yiannopoulos as his press secretary. Yiannopoulos himself is an extremely vocal Trump supporter, recently penning an article on father’s day in praise of “daddy” Donald.
With the constant support and promotion of Yiannopoulos from internet users, he has become a social media force to be reckoned with, boasting Twitter followers of 310,000 and nearly 200,000 Facebook likes, Yiannopoulos social media presence is huge within internet conservative circles.
Despite the suspension of Yiannopoulos’ Twitter account on multiple occasions, he has continued to grow in power and influence. His college speech entrances have become infamous and his podcast is one of the most popular on iTunes. It’s hard to deny that Milo has established himself as one of the most important conservative speakers of his generation.
With the popularity of Reddit’s /r/The_Donald, despite Reddit admins attempts to alter the Reddit algorithm to diminish the influence of the subreddit, their promotion of Milo is a significant moment.
