Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) described President Donald Trump’s decision to implement travel bans on China and Europe during the coronavirus outbreak as “very significant,” offering his remarks in an interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Sunday with host Joel Pollak.
Pollak invited Scott’s evaluation of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, noting Scott’s overseeing of hurricane disaster responses in his former capacity as Florida’s governor.
“I appreciate the fact that [Donald Trump] shut down the border with China,” said Scott. “I appreciate the fact that he did the same thing with Europe. Those two decisions were pretty significant decisions. I’m appreciative of the fact that he’s doing these daily briefings, because … when you do these daily briefings, you find out what concerns people have, and it pushes you to move faster and faster and faster.”

Scott described public-private partnerships in response to the coronavirus as “exciting,” pointing to GM’s Friday announcement that it would assist ventilator maker Ventec Life Systems with operations, including logistics, purchasing and manufacturing.
“It’s a horrible time, but it’s exciting to see people sharing and working together,” Scott remarked. Scott said, “I’m working hard to get a moratorium on all financial transactions, you know, like our rent, and credit cards, and mortgages, and things like that because that will have a big impact when given to people that need it. It’s not a handout to them. It’s just a postponement of your obligation.
Scott concluded, “If we all do the right thing, we’re going to save family members’ lives, we’re going to save friends’ lives, we’re going to save co-workers’ lives,” praising “camaraderie” between Americans and “coming together” during a crisis.
