Republican National Committee spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany discussed the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner with Deputy Political Editor Amanda House on Breitbart News Daily on Sirius XM on Monday. She expressed her outrage over Daily Show comedian Michelle Wolf’s vulgar attacks on her friend, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
McEnany skipped the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where Wolf delivered her heavily criticized routine. She cited the bias and animus on display last year for her decision but said this weekend’s dinner was “even more mean-spirited, to the tune of 100 times this year as opposed to last.”
McEnany, a former conservative CNN contributor got her start in media with Sarah Sanders’ father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and was personally disturbed by Wolf’s flippant attack on the White House press secretary, who attended in the president’s absence.
“I saw hatred on that stage,” McEnany told House. “I saw hatred for other people and a lack of empathy, a lack of compassion. And it’s one thing to make a joke; I understand this is a comedian. It’s another thing to personally dig a knife into someone and twist that knife, especially, by the way, someone as kind and warm-hearted as Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I’ve known her for a long time, since I worked on her father’s television show.”
“Absolutely hypocritical,” McEnany said of Wolf’s remarks and the cheers they got from ostensibly feminist media figures. “If they were wanting to build up women, they were doing anything but that on Saturday evening. Belittling women for their physical appearance, just ruthlessly going after them, X-rated language, really, it was just vile, the entire thing.”
“There is no better family, no stronger woman than the Huckabees and Sarah Huckabee Sanders,” McEnany told Sanders. “To go after someone as warm-spirited and kind as Sarah … just from a human being level, it’s disgusting, and there shouldn’t be a place for that.”
