Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, former U.S. Senate Candidate and conservative grassroots leader Rob Maness joined Breitbart News Daily with Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow and Washington Political Editor Matt Boyle Thursday to set the stage for that night’s “Masters of the Universe” Townhall in Metairie, Louisiana.

Broadcasting live form Metairie, Boyle asked Maness about the feeling on the ground ahead of the event. “It’s a simple one-word answer: excitement,” he told Boyle. “Everybody just wants to pitch in and do their best to make it a great event, to get solid information out about what’s going on with the internet, because there’s just so much disinformation now.”

LISTEN:

“The citizens of Louisiana understand their freedoms, I think, better than any other state in the union … and they fight for them everyday,” Maness added about the venue for the event, jointly hosted by Breitbart News and free-speech advocacy group Free Our Internet and expected to have be attended up to 1,000 spectators. “There’s been very little paid promotion out here,  I personally just reached out to my friends I know around the state and I know even the Republican Party’s been involved at the grassroots level and it’s just fantastic.

“This internet issue is one of those big issues that we need to take on,” Maness explained, adding:

[W]e’ve got to take it on not just as grassroots, but also the folk who, as you mentioned, are dumping millions maybe even billions of dollars from the conservative perspective into research and development, trying to get other organizations and entities going that can protect freedom of speech and protect the reality of the stories that need to get out.

Maness claims his conservative Facebook page, with its quarter million followers, could easily get “reach” on his posts in the millions before the social media giant’s controversial “algorithm change” brought that figure down to the tens of thousands. He also claims his YouTube postings were largely demonetized in the Google-owned video hosting service’s recent crackdowns. Both moves have attracted the criticism of conservatives who see them, with some evidence, as targeted to reduce or eliminate their voices.
