During a Wednesday morning discussion on burning the American flag, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) said to Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Raheem Kassam, “I would have to agree with Justice Scalia, who said government shouldn’t be the one enforcing those values.”
However, Rohrabacker added, “I would suggest that if someone is burning the flag, instead of calling the police and having the person arrested, someone might want to take some sort of action on their own part that does not risk that person’s life but at least … in some way, I don’t want to put it too harshly, but, you know, you can kick someone’s ass without having to call the police.”
Rohrabacker seemed to be channeling, or perhaps even joking about, similar comments Tuesday by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.): “It’s a First Amendment right, but you do it in front of me, I’m going to beat the hell out of you,” Manchin said, according to a Roll Call reporter.
The issue has been in the news since President-elect Donald Trump tweeted about it Tuesday.
Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
