After waking up on a dark and deserted Air Canada flight, passenger and Ontario resident Tiffani Adams thought she was experiencing a nightmare.
“This is not happening. I’m having a bad dream. Wake up, Tiffani,” she wrote in a Facebook post shared by a friend on Wednesday.
“I think I’m having a bad dream bc like seriously how is this happening!!?!” The post said.
After the initial shock wore off, Adams tried to contact her friend Deanna Noel-Dale, but her phone died and she was unable to charge it as the aircraft was completely shut down.
“I send her a msg just before midnight saying omg I’ve just woke up and I’m all alone on this cold dark plane,” she wrote.
Adams suffers from anxiety and said she tried to prevent a panic attack while deciding what to do about the situation.
“I’m trying to focus my breathing and control my panic attack while I attempt to charge my phone by plugging into every USB port I could find..no luck bc when they shut the aircraft down there is no power whatsoever,” she said.
Thankfully, Adams spotted a flashlight in the cockpit and used it to find her way to the main exit of the plane. After opening the door, she gained the attention of a luggage cart operator and was helped to safety.
According to a report by the Guardian, Air Canada is currently investigating the incident. However, they have not commented on how or why Adams was overlooked.
“We are still reviewing this matter so we have no additional details to share, but we have followed up with the customer and remain in contact with her,” the airline said in a statement.
Following the harrowing event, Adams said she has been contacted several times by the airline to verify exactly what occurred.
“Air Canada called Monday and Tuesday both people again ask me to repeat what happened apologize for my inconvenience and say they will do an investigation bc they have checks in place that should prevent people from being locked on the aircraft at night.”
