A flood that has left 11 dead and 10,000 people in shelters has caused caskets to be displaced from their burial grounds, WPXI reports.
Caskets floated out of a local cemetery in Louisiana down a flooded street in what has been historic flooding for the area.
The local police department took to social media to share the haunting of image of caskets drifting down the street.
After the post went live, family members of those buried in the cemetery shared their concerns with the police.
“I have family buried here,” one person commented to the Walker Police Department Facebook page. “It is so sad.”
Another person commented, “My daddy’s wife is buried here. I feel so sorry for her children.”
President Obama has declared a state of emergency in Louisiana since the rainfall Friday night, The Associated Press reported.
Some areas of Louisiana have seen up to 17 inches of rain since the storms began Friday, with reports of up to 2 feet of rain in 48 hours. Over 30,000 people have been rescued as of Tuesday night.
Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Tuesday night that there would be a curfew for parishes in the area with significant damage.
