Former President Donald Trump during the vice presidential debate on Tuesday said he would not support a federal abortion ban, adding he would even veto such a bill if it were put on his desk to sign if he were president.
Trump said on social media during the vice presidential debate:
EVERYONE KNOWS I WOULD NOT SUPPORT A FEDERAL ABORTION BAN, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, AND WOULD, IN FACT, VETO IT, BECAUSE IT IS UP TO THE STATES TO DECIDE BASED ON THE WILL OF THEIR VOTERS (THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE!). LIKE RONALD REAGAN BEFORE ME, I FULLY SUPPORT THE THREE EXCEPTIONS FOR RAPE, INCEST, AND THE LIFE OF THE MOTHER. I DO NOT SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATS RADICAL POSITION OF LATE TERM ABORTION LIKE, AS AN EXAMPLE, IN THE 7TH, 8TH, OR 9TH MONTH OR, IN CASE THERE IS ANY QUESTION, THE POSSIBILITY OF EXECUTION OF THE BABY AFTER BIRTH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! [Emphasis added]
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), Kamala Harris’s running mate, said, “This is about health care. In Minnesota we are ranked first in health care for a reason. We trust women. We trust doctors.”
Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), Trump’s running mate, said, “My party, we’ve got to do so much better of a job at earning the American people’s trust back on this issue where they, frankly, they just don’t trust us…I want us as a Republican Party to be pro family is the fullest sense of the word.”
