House Republican lawmakers and conservatives roundly celebrated Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) unanimous election to House Speaker on Wednesday after 22 days of vacancy.
“Congratulations to the new Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson! In eight months, the Republican House Majority passed bills to lower energy costs, secure the border, defend parents’ rights, improve public safety, and more,” Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna McDaniel immediately said after the vote.

“When Republicans come together, we deliver results, and that’s what we need to showcase ahead of 2024. We delivered this Majority to bring solutions to the American people. It’s time for Republicans to unite behind Speaker Johnson and get back to work,” McDaniel added.
Wednesday’s unanimous vote was the first unanimous election since John Boehner won the post in 2011. Johnson’s victory vaulted him from the vice chairmanship of the House Republican Conference to the chamber’s top position. Johnson, 51, is the 56th speaker of the House.
