President Trump’s campaign released an ad shredding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for showcasing a host of gourmet treats in a pricey refrigerator after refusing to replenish the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), leaving millions of Americans without pay and struggling to make ends meet.
The ad features Pelosi’s recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Cordon, where she showed off her stock of gourmet ice cream:
“They asked for a quarter of a trillion dollars in 48 hours. I don’t think so,” Pelosi says in the ad as “Americans are losing their jobs” appears on the screen.
“They objected and I congratulate the Senate Democrats,” she continues as the clips from her appearance with Cordon play.
“This is chocolate, and then we have some other chocolate here. We just got it restocked with the ice cream,” she tells Cordon, showcasing several pints of ice cream, some of which go for $12 a pint.
“Not everyone has a $24,000 stocked fridge,” the chyron reads as the ad shifts to brief words from struggling Americans.
“I don’t know what I would have done if ice cream were not invented. I just wonder,” Pelosi continues as the words “Let them eat ice cream – Nancy Antoinette” appear on the screen.
“Americans are losing their jobs since the virus rocked the economy. Nancy Pelosi blocks funding for people to keep getting paychecks. But she’s got a $24K fridge full of ice cream, so she’s cool,” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said:
Even The View co-host Meghan McCain, a Trump critic, told her co-hosts that the ad was “a kill shot.”
“It’s not the ice cream that’s in her fridge. It’s the fact that she’s standing behind giant refrigerators, multiple ones that cost $24,000 each,” she added.
Fifteen Democrats in the House are calling for the immediate refunding of the PPP, but after ABC host George Stephanopoulos questioned Pelosi on the matter, the Speaker pled ignorance. He asked on Sunday:
You’ve even got some of your own Democrats who are saying, you know, those other programs are important. We should negotiate those in a new package. But it’s important to pass the PPP funding right now by unanimous consent. Why not do that?
“Well, I don’t know who’s saying that,” Pelosi replied.
