President Donald Trump criticized Michigan Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer for repeatedly complaining about the federal government’s response to the Chinese coronavirus.

“She’s not stepping up, I don’t know if she knows what’s going on, all she does is sit there and blame the federal government,” Trump said in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. “She doesn’t get it done and we send her a lot.”

The president said he loved the people of Michigan and would make a decision soon about whether or not to declare a state of emergency in the state, but indicated he was not a fan of Whitmer.

“She is a new governor and not been pleasant,” Trump said in the interview.

Whitmer responded to Trump’s comments on Twitter.

“Hi, my name is Gretchen Whitmer, and that governor is me,” she wrote.

Whitmer has repeatedly stepped up to criticize Trump and the federal government’s response to the coronavirus, even making several appearances on cable news to raise her profile.

Trump also criticized Whitmer on Twitter on March 17 for failing her state.

Whitmer’s political profile continues to rise, especially after delivering the Democrat response to President Trump’s State of the Union address, prompting speculation she might be chosen as a running mate for former Vice President Joe Biden’s run for president
