Two American veterans who served in Iraq confronted former Vice President Joe Biden on the campaign trail this week for his support of the Iraq War that left more than 4,500 Americans dead.
While campaigning in Oakland, California, Biden was confronted by the Iraq War veterans who detailed how their friends had died because of his support for the war.
“We actually fought in your damn wars. We fought in your wars,” the veteran said. “You sent us to hurt civilians. We hurt civilians. You put us out to do it. Our friends are dead.”
The exchange went as follows:
VETERAN: I’m an Air Force Veteran, here with an Army Veteran. We are just wondering why we should vote for somebody who voted for a war and enabled a war that killed thousands of our brothers and sisters, countless Iraqi civilians. You enabled that war. And you also gave a medal to a man who enabled that war and caused that war. Their blood is on your hands as well. You are disqualified, sir. You are disqualified.
BIDEN: I got it, okay.
VETERAN: My friends are dead because of your policies.
BIDEN: So was my son was in Iraq, okay. For a year. Not that it matters, right? You don’t think it matters to me. It matters a lot to me. Let me tell you something.
VETERAN: I’m sure it does. I’m sure it does. And I’m not going after your son, okay.
BIDEN: You better not.
VETERAN: I’m not. I’m not going after your son. You are disqualified, sir. Disqualified. Their blood is on your hands. Blood is on your hands. My brothers and sisters died in Iraq and Afganistan and he enabled that to happen. He enabled that to happen. He is disqualified. He is disqualified. No way he can be president. They are dead. Millions are dead in Iraq. He will not be allowed to be president. Disqualified. Trump is more anti-war than Joe Biden.
As Breitbart News previously reported, the latest Pew Research Center surveys show huge opposition among American veterans for endless wars in the Middle East.
For example, 64 percent of Veterans say the Iraq War is “not worth fighting,” along with 62 percent of all American adults who agree. Only 33 percent of Veterans say the Iraq War is worth fighting. Likewise, nearly 60 percent of Veterans and all American adults say the Afghanistan War was not worth the fight. Less than 40 percent say the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan was worth fighting.
Former President George W. Bush led the U.S. into war in Afghanistan and Iraq with more than 4,500 Americans dying in Iraq — including more than 3,500 killed in combat — and up to 205,000 Iraqi citizens dying in the war since March 2003.
In total, Bush’s post-9/11 wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and intervention in Pakistan have resulted in the deaths of between 480,000 and 507,000 people — including nearly 7,000 American soldiers who had deployed to the regions.
