President Trump announced on Tuesday he will hold a rally in North Carolina on the eve of the September 10 special election in the state’s Ninth Congressional District in which Republican Dan Bishop faces Democrat Dan Bishop.
The rally will be held at the Fayetteville Regional Airport in Fayetteville, North Carolina at 7 p.m. on Monday night.
The president’s tweet hit the key themes of Bishop’s campaign, which focus on McCready’s embrace of the far left policies of national Democrats, specifically their support for open border, sanctuary cities, and restrictions on Second Amendment rights.
McCready has accepted the financial support of national Democrats but has attempted to play down the degree of his support for the policies of the more visible Democrats, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)
Last week, both Bishop and Trump hit North Carolina Democrats over Gov. Cooper’s veto of a bill that would have required local county sheriffs to cooperate with ICE when dealing with illegal aliens.
Bishop blasted Cooper, Mecklenberg County Sheriff Garry McFadden, and his special election opponent Dan McCready, calling them a “sanctuary trifecta.”
While Cooper and McFadden have very publicly announced their opposition to local sheriff cooperation with ICE, McCready has failed to comment on Cooper’s veto, which has given Bishop a prime opportunity for attack.
Bishop challenged McCready to oppose Bishop’s veto of the ICE cooperation bill, but McCready has been silent on the issue.
“Bishop called on McCready to break with his party and live up to his campaign slogan by supporting a veto override that would prevent dangerous criminal illegals from being released on the public,” the Laurinburg Exchange reported.
Sen. Bishop renewed his call for Mecklenburg Sheriff Garry McFadden’s resignation and again condemned his catch and release policy for criminal illegal immigrants that has already seen a slew of dangerous offenders — at least 22 according to ICE — back on Charlotte streets rather than in federal custody.
McFadden’s refusal to cooperate with ICE detainers has allowed illegal immigrants to be released whose alleged crimes include: first-degree rape, indecent liberties with a minor, assault on a female, communicating threats, assault by strangulation, first degree kidnapping, assault on a female, domestic violence protective order violations, and robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. Federal officials warn this policy could make Charlotte a haven for illegal immigration.
“It is beyond comprehension how anyone could side with dangerous criminal illegal immigrants over the people they are victimizing, yet here we find three extremists of the radical left, Governor Cooper, Dan McCready and Sheriff McFadden, doing just that,” said Sen. Bishop. “This reckless policy is an outrage that hurts innocent crime victims, many of them women and girls victimized by domestic violence and sex crimes. Dan McCready’s refusal to utter a peep makes a mockery of his sloganeering vow to put country over party.
Late last week President Trump also criticized Gov. Cooper for his veto of the ICE cooperation bill.
The most recent polls show the race between Bishop and McCready is close, and both political parties and their related groups are spending heavily to win this bellwether election.
