Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the House Democratic Caucus Chair and No. 5 House Democrat, on Wednesday evening ripped the “sycophants” in President Donald Trump’s cabinet for lacking the “guts to deploy the 25th Amendment.”
Jeffries said Trump is “having a complete and total meltdown” in response to a story about Trump’s Wednesday press conference in which he said he was “the chosen one” to take on China.
Jeffries, who is no hero of the progressive left, likely opened himself up to more questions from the left with his tweet about why he is not out front demanding an impeachment inquiry if he believes Trump’s cabinet should “deploy the 25th Amendment.”
Anti-Trump zealots on the left and right made the hashtag “#25thAmendmentNow” trend on Twitter on Wednesday after Trump’s impromptu exchange with reporters:
Anthony Scaramucci, who has vowed to defeat Trump in 2020 after having a falling out with the Trump administration, also recently called for the 25th Amendment option.
“I’m not hedging that, if I was a Cabinet member I would be going to the other Cabinet members and saying, ‘hey it’s sort of time for the 25th Amendment because he is very destructive and obviously mentally imbalanced and unstable.’ If you are asking my personal opinion, if I was on the Cabinet, I would say, ‘hey it’s time for the 25th Amendment, the guy has lost it obviously,'” he reportedly said. “But I’m not on the Cabinet.”
