An increasing number of Democrats are beginning to view Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) as “electable” in a general election matchup against President Trump, according to an Economist/YouGov poll released this week.
Democrat voters have had the most confidence in presidential hopeful Joe Biden’s (D) electability, with 65 percent of Democrats saying he could “probably beat” Trump. No other candidate has come close except for Warren, who saw 57 percent in the latest poll — a 14 point jump from June’s numbers. Fifty-two percent of Democrats say Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) could “probably beat” Trump, while 47 percent say Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) “probably” could.
The same poll found Warren trailing Biden by just one point nationally — signaling a statistical tie.
As Breitbart News reported:
YouGov surveyed 1500 U.S. adults (1127 of which are registered voters) August 10–13 and asked likely Democrat primary voters, “If the Democratic presidential primary or caucus in your state were held today, who would you vote for?”
Biden came in with 21 percent support among Democrat primary voters. Warren – who has found herself on Biden’s heels in recent weeks – came right up behind him with 20 percent support. With a margin of error of +/- 2.6 percent (when adjusted for weighting) and +/- 3 percent (for registered voters), the two are statistically tied for first place.
The latest Economist/YouGov poll serves as yet another sign of Warren’s rise nationally and statewide. An Iowa Starting Line-Change Research poll released Thursday shows Warren with 28 percent support in the Hawkeye State — 11 points ahead of Biden and Sanders, who garnered 17 percent each.
