Democrat presidential hopeful Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) stated that one of her first acts as president would be to “Clorox the Oval Office” during the Democrat presidential debate in Detroit, Michigan, on Wednesday night.
“The first thing that I’m gonna do when I am president is I’m going to Clorox the Oval Office,” Gillibrand stated in regards to a question on the Green New Deal.
“The second thing I am going to do is I will re-engage on global climate change, and I will not only sign the Paris global climate accords, but I will lead a worldwide conversation about the urgency of this crisis,” Gillibrand said. “The greatest threat to humanity is global climate change.”
Gillibrand then discussed how she had witnessed the effects of global climate change and severe weather on the lives of American families.
“John F. Kennedy said I want to put a man on the moon in the next ten years, not because it’s easy but because it’s hard. he knew it was going to be a measure of our innovation, our success, our ability top galvanize worldwide competition,” Gillibrand added.
“He wanted to have a space race with Russia,” Gillibrand asserted. “Why not have a green energy race with China? Why not have clean air and clean water for all Americans? Why not rebuild our infrastructure? Why not actually invest in the green jobs. That’s what the Green New Deal is about.”
Gillibrand also claimed she would pass the deal and “put a price on carbon.”
Brad Parscale, President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, mocked Gillibrand’s “Clorox” remark on Twitter.
“Funny,” Parscale wrote. “@SenGillibrand just said chloroxing the Oval while talking about climate change, guess she isn’t smart enough to know chlorine is one of the world’s biggest pollutant.”
