After eight weeks, the Mueller report remains at the top of The New York Times‘ paperback nonfiction bestseller list. Now, comic book publisher IDW is reportedly taking it a step further.
The report, released on April 18, details the results of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian interference with the 2016 election. The 448 dense pages of the report are so forbidding that some lawmakers still have yet to complete it. IDW thinks it may have a solution.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers comic book publisher announced on Friday that they would release the report as a 208-page graphic novel in hopes of making its findings more accessible to the masses.
“It’s a great resource for anyone that wants to be informed about the findings of the most important law enforcement document created in our lifetime,” IDW editor Justin Eisinger said in a news release. “This really is the easiest way to get people to actually read it,” he told The Huffington Post.
Artist Shannon Wheeler said its characters — among them President Donald Trump, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon — are “straight out of Dick Tracy.”
“The part of the report where Trump learns about the investigation and freaks out, saying ‘I’m fucked!’ It makes me laugh every time,” Wheeler said. “Overweight guys like Steve Bannon and Chris Christie are really fun to draw, and ― who knows? ― maybe we’ll put a dunce cap on Donald Trump Jr.”
The graphic novel will be published in April 2020, one year after its source material was released to the public.
