Body cam video reportedly shows two Anaheim, California, police officers firing over 70 rounds at a suspect during a neighborhood chase.
Many of those rounds were fired through the windshield of a police cruiser.
The shooting occurred in July 2018, but video of the incident was just released. It was published by Police Activity, which reports that one of the officers involved in the shooting has been terminated and the second is “facing department discipline.”
The chase began following a 911 call in which the family of 50-year-old Eliuth Penaloza Nava described him as armed and acting strangely. Nava climbed into a white pickup truck and allegedly tried to elude police, at which time the two officers gave chase and opened fire through the windshield of their police vehicle.
ABC 7 reports that officers discovered a BB gun that allegedly looked real after they were finally able to approach the cab of Nava’s truck.
The Orange County District Attorney announced that criminal charges would not be filed against the two officers as the DA cited Nava’s behavior and the fact that he was “holding” a BB gun that looked realistic.
