House Judiciary ranking member Doug Collins (R-GA) charged Monday that Judiciary chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and other Democrats should view the less-redacted Mueller report, unless “they’re afraid to acknowledge” the findings that Donald Trump did not collude with Russia.
Ranking member Collins announced Monday that he has read special counsel Robert Mueller’s less redacted report concluding that Donald Trump did not collude with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. Collins reportedly read the less-redacted report, which allegedly only had four redactions regarding grand jury information, at the Justice Department Monday morning.
Collins said that the report reinforces “the principal conclusions made public last month.”
The highest-ranking Judiciary Committee Republican called on Nadler and other leading Democrats to read the report, unless they remain afraid it will confirm that Trump did not engage in collusion.
Collins’ reading of the less-redacted Mueller report arises as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and other top Democrats declined to view the less-redacted Mueller report last Friday.
In a letter to Attorney General William Barr, the top Democrats insisted they have access to “grand jury material” and other underlying evidence.
The Democrat brass suggested that they need the full Mueller report and “underlying evidence” to fulfill “constitutional responsibilities.”
Nadler said during a press conference last Thursday that he needs special counsel Mueller to testify before Congress because they “clearly cannot believe what” Barr says about the Mueller report.
“That is why I have formally requested special counsel Mueller testifies before the House Judiciary Committee as soon as possible so we can get some answers to these critical questions because we clearly cannot believe what Attorney General Barr tells us,” Nadler added.
