A growing number of House Republicans are calling on Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) to step down from his post as House Intelligence Committee chairman, after the special counsel did not establish that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.
Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), a member of the Intelligence Committee, was the latest Republican to call on Schiff to step down as committee chair, after spending the last two years suggesting on cable news shows, in hearings, and on Twitter, that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.
“For two years, we’ve had a lot of accusations, and I think it’s going to be hard for his credibility to be established once again, if he doesn’t take some kind of an action like stepping down and he should have to answer to that,” Wenstrup said on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”
Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), another member of the Intelligence Committee, also called on Tuesday for Schiff to resign his chairmanship. “I do believe he needs to step aside. I think that his leadership is compromised and it’s compromised, as I was saying, for three reasons,” he said on CNN’s “New Day.”
Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) on Monday both called on Schiff to step down as chairman. White House adviser Kellyanne Conway called on Schiff to resign from Congress entirely.
Throughout the last two years Schiff repeatedly claimed he had “circumstantial” evidence, and later, “direct” evidence of that collusion.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) told Breitbart News’ Penny Starr on Tuesday, “Rep. Adam Schiff wants to talk transparency, so let’s see him present the evidence he has on Trump-Russia collusion. … He can’t do it because he doesn’t have it.”
