President Donald Trump welcomed former Yemen hostage Danny Burch back to the United States, at a meeting Wednesday in the Oval Office.
Burch, an American oil worker, was abducted in Yemen in 2017 before he was freed in February.
“We got him out,” said Trump, thanking the United Arab Emirates for helping the administration.
“Gosh, it’s great to be an American,” Burch said shortly, flashing a thumbs up sign.
Trump boasted that the administration had already freed 20 hostages abroad, making it a priority of his presidency.
“I love doing it, because this is the end result,” Trump said, gesturing at Burch. “A happy man with a happy family.”
Senator Lindsey Graham and Mitt Romney attended the event and also praised the president’s success.
“I congratulate the administration, the president, the vice president, for making this such a high priority,” Romney said. “Welcome home. It’s wonderful to have you back in our wonderful land.”
