President Donald Trump ripped House Democrats for hosting a hearing with his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen at the same time he was trying to negotiate with North Korea overseas.
“I think having a fake hearing like that and having it in the middle of this very important summit is a really terrible thing,” Trump said during a press conference after the nuclear talks in Vietnam were cut short.
Cohen provided riveting television on Thursday afternoon by accusing the president of being a “racist,” a “liar,” and a “conman,” despite getting sentenced to prison for crimes that did not involve Trump.
Trump said that he watched as much of the hearings as he could, despite them taking place at night in Vietnam because of the 12 hour time difference.
“They could have made it two days later, or next week, and it would have been even better,” Trump said, referring to Democrats.
But the president took note of one point that Cohen made in his testimony with Democrats.
“He lied a lot, but it was interesting because he didn’t lie about one thing, he said, no collusion with the Russian hoax,” Trump commented.
Trump said that Cohen lied about 95 percent of what he said to Congress and said that he was “impressed” that he did not lie about the Russia investigation.
“We’ll see what happens, but it was pretty shameful I think,” Trump said.
