The NRA-ILA reports there will be a secret gun control push this Tuesday in Nevada in a special joint judiciary hearing.
The NRA-ILA notes there is no documentation on the specific gun control proposal, but outside groups are rallying gun control activists to support efforts to criminalize private gun sales via universal background checks.
They quote a Battle Born Progress action alert which said, “[Nevada has] a new Governor who has prioritized legislation on gun violence for this current session of the Nevada legislature, we Nevadans can make our voices heard to pass background check legislation once and for all.”
Battle Born Progress notes the universal background check initiative that was passed in 2016 but never implemented, because it was not enforceable as written. They go so far as to suggest the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas shooting was able to occur because the initiative was not being enforced.
However, the Las Vegas gunman passed a background check for all his gun purchases. So the universal background check initiative would not have prevented that attack in any way.
Nevertheless, Battle Born Progress urges gun controllers to come “Tuesday, February 12, to testify in support of background checks on all firearm sales.”
The NRA-ILA says, “It’s critical that gun owners across the state of Nevada contact their legislators immediately and voice opposition to this secretive process that will result in the restriction of your rights! Please also consider attending the hearing either at the Capitol Building in Carson City or the Grant Sawyer Building in Las Vegas.” The meeting starts at 8 a.m.
