Police in Tampa, Florida, are searching for a suspect who shot a bystander for trying to stop an alleged assault.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the incident occurred at a 7-Eleven where “a witness said he saw a man [allegedly] assaulting a woman as the pair sat inside a red Ford F-150 pickup truck in the parking lot.” The witness tried to stop the alleged assault, which led to a physical altercation.

The witness says he punched the suspect in self-defense. And the suspect responded by retrieving a gun and shooting the witness in the shoulder.

The suspect is described as “a hispanic male, ages 30 to 40, heavy set and standing about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 tall.” Police are also looking for a woman, who is a white 20-something “about 5-feet tall with straight blonde or light brown hair.” They are concerned for her safety.

ABC Action News reports that the suspect fled the scene in a “newer Ford” pick-up.
