Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) slammed President Donald Trump ahead of the State of the Union Address on Tuesday, telling reporters failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams was the main attraction of the night.
“Speaking to reporters ahead of the speech, Schumer said, ‘President Trump will say the state of our union is strong. But the American people know the truth.’ He also quipped that, ‘I’m glad President Trump will be the warmup act for Stacey Abrams,’” Fox News reported.
Democrats picked Abrams, who lost the Georgia governor’s race to Republican Brian Kemp, to speak.
On Monday from the Senate floor, Schumer spoke harshly about Trump, saying, “the state of the Trump administration, how he runs the government: chaos.”
“The continuity and effectiveness of American government have been deeply compromised by the turmoil and turnover at the White House,” Schumer said.
A looming question is just how many falsehoods, distortions, and made up facts will appear in the president’s speech. How many times will he say something is ‘fake news’ because it is true, and he doesn’t like to hear the truth?
