Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) has been admitted to hospice care, the congressman’s wife Joe Anne Jones revealed on Saturday.
Rep. Jones’s “health has declined after sustaining a broken hip last week. He is now in hospice care. The family asks for your prayers, and for their privacy to be respected during this difficult time.” a spokesperson for the lawmaker said in a statement.
The 75-year-old representative, who has served in Congress for nearly 25 years, has not voted in the House since September due to an undisclosed illness. The North Carolina Republican underwent surgery at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for a broken hip on January 15, according to NBC affiliate WITN.
He was re-elected to his seat in the 2018 midterm election after running unopposed in a district, which includes New Bern and Kinston.
