Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Wednesday dismissed Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s concerns about security at the State of the Union address during the partial government shutdown.

“The Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Secret Service are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union,” she wrote on Twitter.

Pelosi urged Trump on Wednesday morning to cancel his planned address, citing security concerns because of security staff not getting paid during the partial government shutdown.

The Secret Service is part of the Department of Homeland security, where essential security employees are working without paychecks.

“We thank the Service for their mission focus and dedication and for all they do each day to secure our homeland,” Nielsen said.
