Increasing border enforcement is the second biggest priority for all American voters, just after boosting the economy, a new poll reveals.

The latest monthly Harvest/Harris Poll finds that amid skyrocketing illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border, increasing enforcement at the border is the second most important priority to all voters, following job creation and the economy.

When asked to rank the top issues that should be of utmost priority to Congress and President Trump, all voters say these are their top five priorities:

  1. Boosting the economy
  2. Increasing border enforcement
  3. Decreasing national budget deficits
  4. Protecting healthcare for Americans with pre-existing conditions
  5. Passing healthcare reform

Meanwhile, prison reform — which billionaires the Koch brothers and George Soros are advocating for — remains one of the least important issues to American voters.

Among all voters, prison reform ranks as the fourth least important issue facing the nation, with even only seven percent of Democrat voters saying it is their first, second, or third top priority.

The poll comes as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), under Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s direction, has failed to reduce illegal immigration and deal with a caravan of 7,000 to 10,000 Central American migrants.

Every year, the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million foreign nationals, with the vast majority deriving from family-based “chain migration,” whereby newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the country.

In 2017, the legal and illegal immigrant population reached a record high of 44.5 million. By 2023, the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the legal and illegal immigrant population of the U.S. will make up nearly 15 percent of the entire U.S. population.
