Former Vice President Joe Biden dropped a hint on his 2020 election plans Monday evening at a stop on his book tour in Missoula, Montana, saying he thinks he is “the most qualified” person for the job.
“I’ll be as straight with you as I can. I think I’m the most qualified person in the country to be president,” Biden told an audience gathered at the University of Montana Monday. “The issues that we face as a country today are the issues that have been in my wheelhouse, that I’ve worked on my whole life.”
Biden added that he would decide with his family “as a unit” over whether he would mount a run for the presidency—hinting that he would decide on whether or not to run “in the next six weeks to two months.”
The 76-year-old spoke at the University of Montana in Missoula on Monday on his “American Promise Tour” to promote his latest book called Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose.
Biden, who also served as U.S. Senator from Delaware for 36 years and mounted two unsuccessful campaigns for president in 1988 and 2008, told the audience he was a “gaffe machine” but would still be more honest than President Trump.
“I am a gaffe machine, but my God what a wonderful thing compared to a guy who can’t tell the truth,” he said. “I’m ready to litigate all those things, the question is what kind of nation are we becoming? What are we going to do? Who are we?”
“Whether or not I run, whoever runs, I’m going to break my neck to make sure they win,” he said. “We can’t have four more years.”
President Trump had previously discussed a potential Biden presidential run in 2020, telling CBS News in a July interview that running against the former Democrat vice president would be “a dream.”
But if Biden decides to run, he may have to answer to some explosive revelations that could call into question his qualifications for the job.
In one instance, Biden and his son Hunter struck a $1.5 billion deal with the Chinese government-backed Bank of China just ten days after the vice president and his son returned from a trip to China aboard Air Force Two.
Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer, in his book Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, detailed how Biden may have helped Hunter secure the $1.5 billion deal with a China-based investment firm that had ties to a Chinese atomic energy company indicted for “nuclear power conspiracy against the United States.”
“The FBI arrests and charges senior officials in this company with stealing nuclear secrets in the United States. Specifically, they’re trying to get access to something called the AP-1000 nuclear reactor that is very similar to the ones that we put on U.S. submarines,” Schweizer wrote.
“So again, you have the son of the vice president, a close aide to the secretary of state who are investing in a company that is trying to steal nuclear secrets in the United States. It’s a stunning story, and here’s the thing: none of this is required to be disclosed because they’ve figured out a way to get around these disclosure laws,” Schweizer continued.
