San Francisco forensic pathologist Judy Melinek wants to help Nancy Pelosi defeat the NRA and secure more gun control throughout the country.
Her motivation is drawn from the myriad failing gun controls in California generally, and San Francisco specifically.
Melinek has not said a word about her city’s failed gun control, but she going right at the NRA.
Her exchange with the began after the American College of Physicians released a study calling for a ban on plastic guns, semiautomatic guns, and “high capacity” magazines, among other things.
The NRA responded to the study by suggesting “self-important, anti-gun doctors” should “stay in their lane.”
Melinek responded:
Again, Melinek did not mention that California has universal background checks, firearm registration laws, red flag laws, a requirement that would-be gun buyers first get a certificate of safety from the state, a 10-day waiting period for gun purchases, an “assault weapons” ban, a one handgun-a-month purchase limit, a “good cause” qualification for concealed carry permit issuance, a ban on campus carry, a ban on carrying guns in places that serve alcohol for consumption, and controls for ammunition purchases.
In addition to this, San Francisco has gun storage laws and a ban on the sale of hollow-point ammunition.
Despite these and numerous other controls, California continues to see heinous gun crime. The November 7 Borderline Bar & Grill in which 12 innocents lost their lives was the most recent.
Yet instead of admitting gun control is not working, Melinek is seizing the Borderline attacker’s use of a “high capacity” magazine. To do this she overlooks the fact Borderline was a gun-free zone by state mandate. This means the victims could not shoot back in self-defense. It also means the attacker could have used a six-shot double action revolver and killed as many people as killed with a .45 handgun.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Melinek plans to work with Pelosi toward gun control once the new Congress is sworn in.
