President Donald Trump hinted on Wednesday it might be a good thing for Republicans to have Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.
“In all fairness, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats,” he wrote on Twitter. “If they give her a hard time, perhaps we will add some Republican votes. She has earned this great honor!”
At least 58 Democrats have indicated that they will not support Pelosi for the role, as she continues to serve as a talking point for Republicans nationwide.
Trump phoned Pelosi on Tuesday night, according to the White House, after it was clear that her party had seized a majority in the House of Representatives.
On Wednesday morning, he also fired a warning to Democrats planning big investigations in the House.
“If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level,” he wrote. “Two can play that game!”
The president plans to discuss the midterms in a Wednesday press conference. Pelosi will respond with a press conference scheduled for noon.
