Republican Pete Stauber, a former professional hockey player, beat Democrat Joe Radinovich in Minnesota’s 8th District by running on a populist, economic- nationalist platform.
Stauber, a staunch supporter of President Trump’s “America First” agenda, won the district race by running as the pro-tariff, pro-fair trade candidate against Radinovich.
As Breitbart News noted, Stauber has praised Trump for leading the GOP to become a party for American workers by enacting tariffs on steel and aluminum imports that have devastated the economies and manufacturing sectors in states like Minnesota.
“President Trump is keeping his promises that he made on the campaign trail,” Stauber told the New York Times. “He talked about leveling the playing field for the American worker. He did that with the tariffs.”
Stauber ran on a populist, pro-minor platform. The economic nationalist agenda has revived Iron Range, Minnesota — which was devastated by multinational free trade deals — by the Trump tariffs. A local report this month noted how small businesses in Iron Range are seeing employment booms and a growing economy thanks to the strong production of the iron mines in the region.
