Republican Mike Braun leads incumbent Democrat Joe Donnelly in the Indiana U.S. Senate race, a Cygnal poll released Tuesday reveals.
The poll, which surveyed 505 likely Indiana general election voters from Oct. 26-27, revealed Braun enjoying a three-point lead over Donnelly in the race.
According to the poll, Braun retains 88 percent of Republican voters while 10 percent choose Donnelly. Donnelly retains 90 percent of Democrat voters while seven percent of Democrats choose Braun.
Independents who were surveyed break for Donnelly 47 percent to 40 percent. Seventeen percent of conservatives surveyed in the poll have an unfavorable view of Braun, while 71 percent favor him.
Trump’s favorability also plays into the Indiana Senate race. The telephone survey shows 95 percent of Indiana Republicans as having a favorable opinion of the president, while 92 percent of Democrats have an unfavorable opinion.
As he wishes to continue serving deep-red Indiana, Donnelly’s vote to not confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States might have a negative impact on the election turnout.
Donnelly said the accusations placed towards Kavanaugh by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford were “disturbing and credible.”
Earlier this month, a senior aide to Donnelly said, “Joe also has serious concerns about Judge Kavanaugh’s temperament and impartiality. He’s ready to work with President Trump on a new nominee, but remains opposed to this one.”
The Cygnal poll outlined above has a margin of error of ± 4.36 percent at a 95 percent confidence interval.
