The Cannon House Office building on Capitol Hill is under evacuation, according to several emerging reports. Reporters on scene say an alarm can be heard. This cause of the development is currently unknown.

The House is in recess and most lawmakers are back in their districts ahead of the midterm elections.
Independence Ave., between First St and New Jersey Ave., has been closed to traffic and cars are being re-routed. U.S. Capitol Police police stationed officers along the building. Inside, the tunnel connecting Cannon to the Capitol is closed.
Cannon is the oldest congressional office building, built in 1908. The building is currently undergoing a full renovation, expected to take 10 years and cost approximately $752.7 million.
