Republican Josh Hawley currently enjoys a seven-point lead over incumbent Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill, according to a campaign poll obtained by the Washington Examiner.
Currently, Hawley, the attorney general of Missouri, enjoys 49 percent support, compared to just 42 percent for McCaskill.
In the poll, which the Hawley campaign conducted, the pollsters said this “lead has held firm since the vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.”
With just 13 days to go until Election Day, the campaign described this lead as “durable.”
The poll of 800 likely voters also found that President Trump enjoys a 54 percent job approval rating in a state he won by 19 points in 2016.
According to the Real Clear Politics poll of polls, Hawley holds a slim lead of just 0.2 percent. The most recent poll, which was released last week, had him up by only one point.
One problem for McCaskill, and for any incumbent, is that she is not polling close to 50 percent. Her Real Clear Politics average of support is just 45.8 percent, and she has never polled higher than 47 percent.
