Donald Trump: Midterm Elections ‘More Important than Taxes’

President Donald Trump believes the midterm elections are about much more than the tax cuts Republicans passed in Congress.

“Forget taxes–with so many things more important than taxes, although those big tax cuts, they did come in handy, didn’t they?” Trump said during a rally with Montana voters on Thursday.

The president focused his messaging on his fight to secure the southern border and Senate Democrats smearing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation process.

“This will be an election of Kavanaugh, the caravan, law and order, and common sense,” Trump said. “That’s what it’s going to be. It’s going to be an election of those things.”

He reminded supporters that Democrats were uniformly opposed to changes in immigration laws to help stop the practice of “catch and release” policies at the border.

“The crazy Democrats refuse to support any form of border security legislation to fix our absolutely horrible, old-fashioned, loophole-ridden immigration laws,” Trump said.

He said Democrats supported the caravan coming to the United States because they would likely change future voting trends.

“They like it,” Trump said. “They also figure everybody coming in is going to vote Democrat. You know. Hey, they’re not so stupid, when you think about it, right? But they are crazy.”

The Republican Party had become the “common-sense” Party, Trump explained, pointing to support from voters who traditionally voted Democrat.

“That’s why we have a lot of Democrats that support us. Frankly, we have a lot of the Democrats that aren’t crazy,” he said. “They have intelligence–because the Democrat Party has gone so far left that nobody knows what to do.”

Trump said that wherever he went across the country, people would stop and thank him for saving the United States, but he clarified that the midterms were not just about him.

“Well, the truth is, we have all together — because this has been a movement like we’ve never seen before in this country — we all together — not me,” he said. “I’m a spokesperson. By the way, how have I done? Have I done okay?”

The crowd of supporters roared with approval.
