Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) voted with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) against President Trump’s pro-gun Supreme Court nominees, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
Moreover, the NRA-ILA reports Tester also voted with Schumer to confirm former President Barack Obama’s anti-gun SCOTUS nominees, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.
Tester voted against two of the strongest safeguards of the Second Amendment, Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, but supported two clear opponents of the right to self-defense, Justices Kagan and Sotomayor. Yet he tells the people of Montana he is pro-gun:
Tester has also stood with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) for gun control. On June 12, 2018, Breitbart News reported that Tester voted for Feinstein’s push for an expansion of gun control that would violate due process. That expansion centered on incorporating the terror watch list into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System’s prohibited purchasers list. This would bar those accused, rather than those convicted, from purchasing guns.
Montana’s GOP explained Feinstein’s gun control push:
Grants the Attorney General unconstitutional authority and absolute discretion to infringe and deny 2nd Amendment Rights to any individual on the terrorist watch list or suspected of being a terrorist without due process– even if you are accidentally placed on the terrorist watch list, which happened to Senator Ted Kennedy.
Tester has a D-rating from the NRA.
