Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) announced her opposition to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Thursday and NRA-ILA director Chris Cox responded by pointing out Heitkamp was putting the Democrat Party above North Dakota gun owners.
Moreover, Cox noted that Heitkamp’s opposition to Kavanaugh was proof she was putting “partisan politics” above Americans’ right to defend themselves with a firearm.
Cox said, “Today, Heidi Heitkamp put partisan politics above the rights of law-abiding North Dakota gun owners. Right now, the U.S. Supreme Court is split 4-4 on the basic right to keep a firearm in the home for self-defense. Therefore, a vote against confirming Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is a vote against the fundamental right to self-defense.”
Heitkamp did not vote for Kavanaugh in Friday’s cloture vote, but Kavanaugh still won the vote 51 to 49.
The latest Fox News poll shows Republican Kevin Cramer is leading Heitkamp 53 to 41 in North Dakota’s Senate race.
