Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s friend, Mark Judge, named as a witness to Kavanaugh’s alleged sexual assault of Christine Blasey Ford at a high school party in the 1980s, has responded to Ford and Kavanaugh’s hearing testimonies on Thursday.

Ford claims, without corroboration or evidence, that Kavanaugh groped her at the party, a charge Kavanaugh vehemently denied in an emotional opening statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Mark Judge signed a letter, posted on the committee’s website, reacting to the hearing. The letter was witnessed and sent by his attorney:

As I stated in my attorney, Barbara Van Gelder’s September 18, 2018 letter, I did not ask to be involved in this matter nor did anyone ask me to be involved. We have told the committee that I do not want to comment about these events publicly. As a recovering alcoholic and a cancer survivor, I have struggled with depression and anxiety. As a result, I avoid public speaking.

Brett Kavanaugh and I were friends in high school, but we have not spoken directly in several years. I do not recall the events described by Dr. Ford in her testimony before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee today. I never saw Brett act in the manner Dr. Ford describes.

I am knowingly submitting this letter under penalty of felony.

Judge was the subject of several Democrats’ questions to Kavanaugh because of Judge’s alcoholic-fueled lifestyle as a young man, which he chronicled in a fictional account published in the late 1990s, entitled Wasted: Tales of a GenX Drunk.

Many Democrats called for Judge to come before the committee under oath to discuss Ford’s allegations against Kavanaugh.

Judge has already submitted a letter to the committee denying he witnessed Kavanaugh sexually assaulting Ford.

The committee is scheduled to vote Kavanaugh out of committee today ahead of a full Senate vote.
