Gabby Giffords’ gun control group is running a scripted school shooting ad against pro-Second Amendment Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO).
The ad features a daughter texting her mother from school to inform her that they are on lockdown, then highlights the texts between the two talking about how much they love each other.
Politico published the text of the ad: “KID: ‘Mom, i’m in social studies. They are putting us on lock down.’ MOM: ‘What? Did they say why?’ KID: ‘Someone has a gun and they can’t find him’ MOM: ‘A gun???? Are you ok?’ KID: ‘Yeah but I’m so scared. I love u. Tell dad I love him.’ MOM: ‘I’m on my way … Try to stay quiet. … Emily? … Emily I love you so much.’”
The ad costs about $1.5 million and is titled, “The NRA Loves Mike Coffman.”
Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly launched a national gun control campaign following the December 14, 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary School attack. They reacted to that attack with a push for universal background checks, even though the attacker stole his guns (so no amount of background checks would have stopped him).
Moreover, Giffords herself was attacked January 8, 2011, by a man who used a gun he acquired via a background check, thereby proving again the impotency of such checks to begin with.
Now she is targeting Rep. Coffman with a scripted school shooting ad that does not mention that an attempted school shooting at Arapahoe High School on December 13, 2013, was stopped within 80 seconds because of the presence of a good guy with a gun in the building. Coffman’s district includes parts of Arapahoe and both Coffman and the NRA support having good guys with guns in place to stop bad buys who want to prey on innocents.
