Officers arrested a man at a Virginia grocery store on Saturday after people witnessed him pull down his pants and rub his buttocks against items in the produce section, police said.
A loss prevention employee at the Giant grocery store in Manassas told authorities that the suspect then placed the defiled items back on the store shelves, NBC Washington reported.
Police arrived at the store around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, where they arrested the suspect, Michael Dwayne Johnson, 27, at the store.
Authorities charged Johnson with indecent exposure and destruction of property before releasing him on his own recognizance, the Washington Post reported.
Senior Police Officer Charles Sharp told USA Today that Johnson was with another person at the store who was not charged, and that he does not think the incident stemmed from a mental health issue.
Police said the store later destroyed the defiled pieces of produce. A police report later specified that the affected produce turned out to be pieces of fruit.
