A study published in Tuesday’s Journal of American Medicine Association (JAMA) shows the U.S. is 10th in the world for percentage of homicides involving firearms.

The study, titled Global Mortality from Firearms, lists countries and shows the “proportion of all homicides where [a] firearm was used” in those countries.

A top 10 of the listings:

  1. Venezuela, where 87.5 percent of homicides involved a firearm.
  2. Puerto Rico, where 87.4 percent of homicides involved a firearm.
  3. Guatemala, where 76,3 percent of homicides involved a firearm.
  4. Colombia, where 75.5 percent of homicides involved a firearm.
  5. El Salvador, where 74 percent of homicides involved a firearm
  6. U.S. Virgin Islands, where 73.6 of homicides involved a firearm.
  7. Albania, where 71.5 percent of homicides involved a firearm.
  8. Jamaica, where 7.12 percent of homicides involved a firearm.
  9. Panama, where 68.9 percent of homicides involved a firearm.
  10. U.S., where 68 percent of homicides involved a firearm.

CNN reported on the study as well, and noted that the researchers found the U.S. “ranks 30th in the world for total number of homicides.”

So the U.S. is 10th in the world in percentage of homicides involving a firearm and 30th, overall, in the total number of homicides regardless of weapon. These numbers are reminiscent of an October 6, 2017, NPR article citing a 2016 University of Washington study which showed the U.S. had “the 31st highest rate [of gun violence] in the world.”

Despite these studies, the left continues to hard-sell gun control by assuring us the U.S. leads the world in gun violence.
