Mississippi State Sen. Chris McDaniel (R-MS) told Breitbart News Sunday that the establishment U.S. Chamber of Commerce continues to push Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) because they “know she’s a Democrat, they know she’s soft on immigration, soft on amnesty, and every other policy.”
Breitbart News Sunday host Matthew Boyle opened the interview with McDaniel, discussing how Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) have signaled that they plan to support wall funding in the September spending bill and that Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) said she is open to backing wall funding in the fall spending bill. Boyle noted that Sen. Hyde-Smith is “not doing anything about” getting wall funding in the fall spending bill.
McDaniel told Breitbart News Sunday too many politicians, including Sen. Hyde-Smith, are bought by business interests such as the Chamber of Commerce, to push back against funding a wall on America’s southern border and pushing for amnesty.
“Far too many of our elected officials are owned by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and she’s [Hyde-Smith] owned by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce,” McDaniel said. “They’ve already spent $2 million defending her appointment and that means that they’re against the wall, they’re for amnesty, and I’m very unhappy with the Chamber because of that. They are the problem; Mitch McConnell is the problem”:
McDaniel hopes to unseat Sen. Hyde-Smith to fill out the remainder of former Sen. Thad Cochran’s (R-MS) Senate term, which expires in 2020. Hyde-Smith, along with McDaniel, will appear on Mississippi’s November ballot to become elected to the U.S. Senate. If no one gains a majority during the November election, the race will then move to a runoff.
The Mississippi senator then rhetorically asked, “The question for our time is, do you support immigration and anarchy, or do you oppose it? Do you want law and order, or do you not value it? Right now, Cindy Hyde-Smith is on the side of Mitch McConnell, she’s on the side of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and, Matt, that has to change.”
McDaniel then continued, explaining why America needs to build a wall, how illegal and legal immigration erodes the country’s national identity, and how it depresses American workers’ wages.
The Mississippi Republican contended, “First, it’s a question of national security, and everybody intuitively understands that. Let’s forward for a second. It’s about natural cultural identity, It’s about jobs. It’s about who we are as a country. If we cannot defend our borders, who are we as a nation? Our state traditionally has had very high numbers of people looking for jobs. Our state has traditionally had a high number of people who have been looking for jobs, and the problem is if we’re importing illegals into this state, then those illegals are taking Americans’ jobs. That’s a real problem not only because we don’t have those jobs, but it’s a wage deflation concept by about 12 percent across the board.”
“The wall has to be built. I think it’s the biggest issue facing this country right now,” McDaniel added.
Host Boyle noted that McDaniel was the first candidate in 2014 to sign a pledge from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), vowing to oppose amnesty for illegal aliens and increases to illegal immigration. McDaniel said that the D.C. swamp wants more immigration for cheap labor, whereas Democrats want enough immigrants to establish a permanent electoral majority.
“It’s funny because if you talk about the fat cats in Washington, the money changers, the lobbyists, the donors, the folks with the Chamber of Commerce, they’re looking for cheap labor,” McDaniel said. “On the other side of the equation, the Democrats are looking for a voting bloc they can forever elect a president with. Lost in the middle are just regular Americans. A lot in the middle are just regular Mississippians, folks who are trying to take care of their families and work a solid job.”
“We have to re-evaluate the way that we see this country. … What about America First? Nobody needs it worse than people in Mississippi,” McDaniel said.
Breitbart News reported in June that a previous leader of the Mississippi Democratic Party confirmed that Sen. Hyde-Smith voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democrat presidential primary. McDaniel said the Chamber of Commerce continues to support Hyde-Smith because she supports amnesty.
McDaniel said, “It’s insane to me. She can’t be a Republican, she can’t be a lifelong conservative, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Not only did she vote for Hillary Clinton, when she was the cultural commissioner here in the state, she implemented or tried to implement a gun ban on state ag properties. Her biggest donor is a man named Sean Parker. Sean Parker was Hillary’s biggest donor–$300,000 back in 2016. He just gave Cindy $250,00. She’s funded by Democrats. She votes like a Democrat. She’s pushed Democratic measures her entire life.”
McDaniel said, “That’s why the Chamber of Commerce is pushing her. They know she’s a Democrat, they know she’s soft on immigration, soft on amnesty, and every other policy, including fiscal policy.”
