More than 70 people were shot, 11 fatally, over the weekend in gun-controlled Chicago.
On August 5, 2018, Breitbart News reported that at least 40 were shot during the early hours of Sunday morning. There were four fatalities during that time period.
At least 57 people were shot between 5 pm Friday and noon Sunday. ABC7 reported that Stroger Hospital was forced to issued a “trauma lockdown” because of the number of emergency patients brought in for treatment.
The Chicago Tribune reports that at least 73 people had been shot by 6 am Monday morning, 11 of them fatally.
Six of the shootings in gun-controlled Chicago “injured four or more people in a single attack.” In other words, six shootings alone accounted for over 24 victims.
Chicago Police Chief of Patrol, Fred Waller, points the finger at gun violence. He suggests gang members purposefully shoot into crowds of people gathered on hot summer nights, allowing them to easily multiple the carnage.
Waller said, “They take advantage of that opportunity and they shoot into a crowd, no matter who they hit.”
People were shot while riding bicycles, attending funerals, taking part in block parties, and just standing outside.
On July 13, 2018, Breitbart News reported 10 were shot and wounded and six were killed during a 24-hour period in gun-controlled Chicago. On May 3, 2018, Breitbart News reported on a three-day period in which almost 40 were shot throughout the city.
