The four California dentists accused of raping a woman in a Las Vegas hotel have been ordered released by a judge in what some are calling an “unusual” turn of events.
The four men, Ali Badkoobehi, Poria Edalat, Sina Edalat, and Saman Edalat were all booked into Clark County Detention Center this week after being arrested and charged with raping a woman on July 28 in a hotel room at the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel on the Vegas strip.
But now, according to Las Vegas Now, the four were released after prosecutors were provided with a video allegedly made during the night the victim said she was raped.
The case has not been dismissed, but the release is deemed “unusual” for the severity of the charges. One stipulation for the release was that the suspects turn over their passports to prevent them from fleeing the country.
The suspects’ attorney says they are all eager to prove their innocence in court.
“These allegations; the very allegations are extremely damaging,” Gary Guymon, Sina Edalat’s attorney, said in a statement. “You can only imagine being a dentist and having some of your patients Google your name; Google your practice, and this comes up.”
“I can tell you that all four men are anxious to be able to tell their side of the story,” Guymon added.
The stakes are high, of course. If convicted of the sexual assault, rape, and felony kidnapping charges, the four men could spend the rest of their lives in jail.
They are next scheduled to appear in court on October 1.
