President Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday morning that he does have an Elton John album containing the song “Rocket Man” to give to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Reporters were gathered at the White House for Trump’s departure to the NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium when the question arose. They asked the president if John’s 1972 Honky Chateau album containing the song “Rocket Man” was given to Chairman Kim during U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was in North Korea last week.
“They didn’t give it. I have it for him. They didn’t give it,” Trump confirmed. “But it will be given at a different period.”
“I actually do have a little gift for him, but you’ll find out what that gift is when I give it,” Trump added.
A report out of South Korea last week indicated that Pompeo carried with him to North Korea two items for Kim, a letter from President Trump and the Elton John CD.
Trump chided Kim as “little rocket man” in 2017 as North Korea continued testing ballistic missiles and advancing its nuclear program.
Over Easter weekend of this year Pompeo made what is believed to be his first trip to North Korea in attempts to work toward denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Last week’s trip to North Korea is said to be his third trip in this effort and the first back since Trump met with Kim in Singapore to discuss denuclearization.
